AN INVITATION: CALLING FOR YOUR STORIES
JACK & SANDY
JACK & SANDY
Were you in Jersey City during Hurricane Sandy?
Hello, I am looking for community members to share their stories from October 2012 for an oral history-informed and performance-based art project. I would like to hear from a diverse group of people from every ward who have experienced one of the biggest collective losses in our recent local history.
This project aims to tell the stories of our neighbors– capturing their memories, feelings, and reflections - and to understand how their experiences have shaped their lives today. Sharing your story can bring closure and foster collective healing.
Your contributions will be transformed into a “Crankie”—a storytelling device that scrolls as it is cranked by hand, creating moving pictures in real time, accompanied by spoken word and music. These stories will be presented at a public venue in Jersey City.
Have you lost something really special to you?
Maybe a family heirloom, your home, your car, your job, or even a relationship?
On the flip side, have you gained something through the experience?
How about a new friendship or a sense of belonging?
Did you feel supported, or find a connection with others?
As you think about what's ahead, how do you feel about being prepared for the future?
And by the way, have you had a chance to share how you’re feeling with someone? It can really help!
Click on the "Share Your Story" button to write me an email. And forward this link to someone you know by clicking on the "Forward" button below.
